The Letters Of Oscar Hammerstein II

The latest episode of Broadway Nation is streaming now!
My guest is Mark Eden Horowitz who joins me to discuss his fascinating new book: The Letters of Oscar Hammerstein II.
Mark is Senior Music Specialist in the music division of the Library of Congress where he has been an archivist or co-archivist for the papers of Jerome Kern, Vernon Duke, Cole Porter, Frederick Loewe, Alan Jay Lerner, Leonard Bernstein, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, of course.
He is the author of the award-winning book Sondheim on Music, and for ten years he served as the contributing editor for The Sondheim Review.
The Letters of Oscar Hammerstein II contains hundreds of previously unpublished letters to and from Hammerstein that Mark compiled and edited out of thousands.
I found that reading these letters allowed me to go inside the mind of Oscar Hammerstein and experience an extraordinary view of both his professional and personal life that I have never seen before.
It's one of those books where you can turn to any page and find a fascinating new fact or insight.
If you would like to win a FREE copy of the book, Mark will also be joining me for a special Broadway Nation/Broadway Podcast Network LIVESTREAM event tomorrow, Friday, May 20 at 7pm EDT – 4pm PDT, with co-host Alan Seales.
The event will include trivia contests, book giveaways, and the chance to ask Mark any questions you may have about his new book, Hammerstein, or his work at the Library of Congress.
You can join Mark Eden Horowitz, Gail Leondar-Wright and me live here on FaceBook as well as on Broadway Nation's and Broadway Podcast Network’s YouTube channels.
It's all Hammerstein all the time this weekend on Broadway Nation!
